People not medicating their kids?

POSTED BY_TEXT admin ON_TEXT Thursday, November 19, 2009, 14:55
should it be considered child abuse when parents do not vaccinate their kids or when parents choose not to use medication for their child’s mental illness?

there was a case where parents took their child off chemo because they wanted to use holistic medicine and the kid died. the parents were charged with endangering their child and negligent homicide.

shouldnt the same punishment be given to parents who dont medicate their kids for their mental illness?

Additional Details

timothy is still wrong though… its all a big conspiracy and they want us all drugged because they are just ******* i guess i dont know. all doctors and pharmaceutical researchers live in a dungeon somewhere with their evil pet kitty
and arent the drug companies the ones who turned aids from a death sentence into a life sentence?

dont drug companies make the vaccines that stop lots of deadly horrific illnesses?

drug companies are in it to make money JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER COMPANY! they just happen to make products that save lives in the process

well if it happens because you dont have the access or the money then the government should help you. but if you dont ask for help then i think it should still be abuse because you are neglecting the welfare of the kid. inability to access help is not abuse, but not asking for help at that point is

everyone is right except timothy and alvin. timothy is wrong because he obviously hates science. alvin is mainly right except there is no way to tell if they are overprescribed.
there is no statistic to back that up only observations. you can say that they were misdiagnosed with the people you saw personally or have had colleagues see, but making that generalization is dangerous because it may take away from people thinking of mental illness as legit… like timothy. but alvin is probably a good therapist so i wont attack his view.
ok maybe dangerous is a strong word. maybe not fully accurate is better.
pills wont cure damage done by abuse? ok thanks i already knew that. actually mental illness medication doesnt cure anything. it helps the person have control of the symptoms in order to have peace. that is its job.

For mental illnesses, I don’t think it’s generally abusive to not prescribe medicine. (I have five professionally diagnosed mental illnesses myself, so I’m not being judgmental about how the magnitude of it.) It isn’t necessarily threatening the child’s safety to not be on psychiatric medications. There may be some exceptions though, I’d have to really think about it.

When it comes to physical illnesses, as long as the parents can afford it they should be held responsible for getting them the treatment they need. Child neglect is illegal for a reason.

I heard about that chemo case and there was no excuse for what those parents did.
